An effective teacher must have or cultivate good communication and interpersonal skills: should to be able to explain what experts do at Ginebra CERN to 12 year old students. It´s necessary to have a lot of patience and common sense. A balanced, non compulsive sense of organization, excelent manners and high ethical standars are mandatory.
Creativity and a fine sense of performance would be helpful. Effective professors are generally friendly. In addition being an effective proffesor, one needs to be open minded, flexible, and respectful of foreign cultures. Good humor could be a plus.
During my professional development the following topics have been studied:
Teaching with the Brain in Mind by Eric Jensen.
Homework in High School: Influence on Learning.
How it all Starts Inside your Brain.
The Socratic Approch to Character Education.
English II Writing promts.
I draw upon relevant theory and research to develop my personal theories of practice. I understand that professional development is not an end-in-itself, leads to a new learning being appropriately pratice in the learning enviroment.
I use the information from professional development opportunities as a basis for experimenting with, reflecting on and revising my practices.
Currently I´m very interested in the following issues:
1) Science teaching: Biology, Histology, Earth Sciences.
2) Teachers Training: I have a wide experience in professional development. In Cuba and in United States I have test this experience at universitary level and with high school students.
Writing a Molecular Science book gave my the opportunity to develop communication skills. I think I am an excellent teacher, who uses many creative ideas and approches. I can quickly adapt to any situation, no matter how challenging.
